James Warhola has illustrated over 300 sci-fi and fantasy book covers. Two celebrated covers are Robert Heinlein’s “Stranger in a Strange Land” and William Gibson’s first cyberpunk classic, “Neuromance".

This documentary revels another view of uncle Andy through James Warhola’s story telling, and through his two famous children’s books (he received the International Reading Association’s Award for Best Non-Fiction Picture Book for this autobiographical story): Uncle Andy’s A faabbbulous visit with Andy Warhol. He followed up with another book about Andy and his 21 cats entitled: Uncle Andy’s Cats. In addition he illustrated 35 children’s picture books.

In the mid 1970’s James would visit Andy at his home in Montauk, Long Island where he would meet the A-List celebrities that Andy hung out with. All James knew was it was a world he aspired to be in.

In 1980, the editors at MAD Magazine commissioned James for their paperbacks this led to him becoming a regular contributor of the magazine for over 35 years. Currently, MAD has commissioned James to illustrate some new covers, the doc will show the creation of recent MAD Magazine art of Kelly Anne Conway, Trump, and Jared Kushner and some other well-timed political art for MAD.

Soon after he was asked by Topps baseball cards to illustrate: Garbage Pail Kids Cards, a favorite trading card for young boys in the 1980’s, these cards are very collectable. He is one of the original celebrated GPK card artists. Here he worked with famous Art Spielegman. The GPK cards have a new fascination and new batches are back for distribution and purchase. The doc will follow James to various Comic-Cons, and interview some of his cult following.

James’ story embodies the American Dream, it focuses on the challenges of a changing landscape (MAD Magazine to Garbage Pail Kid cards). This setting is reflected through the transition to technology, and digitization of analog forms. The dying art of illustration is upheld by James’ work.

We are raising money for “My Nephew Jamie”, the documentary. It tells the story of an American artist who was greatly influenced by his famous: Uncle Andy Warhol.

There are many impressions that people have about this artist; through the story of James Warhola we see a more personal view a side that Andy did not reveal very often.

James is a delightful person who embodies the American Dream. We are seeking funds to finish filming, edit and complete post production. Donations over $500.00 will have a film credit.
